Unsupported Version

Occasionally, a game may display as unsupported because GameShadow cannot recognise it properly. The game may have had an unofficial mod/patch applied to it, it may be a region-specific version, or is not an official copy.

Beta Patches/Drivers

Often publishers and developers will release beta files as updates to a select test audience. These are generally not the finished product and might cause unknown problems for the user. We tend to wait for the official release of and update so as not to cause any unneccesary issues for our userbase.

No-CD Patches

A No-CD, often known as a crack, usually changes the main executable file. If this changes it becomes an unsupported version. GameShadow does not support No-CD because most patches do not support them and most No-CD cracks are not developed by the original Publisher or Developer. An alternative to using No-CD Patches is to use a third party utility such as Game Jackal, which does the same job but without the risk of downloading a virus or having to change the executable file in any way.

SoftMod Drivers

3rd Party developers will release softmod files for graphics cards as a software based mod to boost the power of the card and unlock closed rendering pipelines. These are generally not the finished product and might cause unknown problems for the user. We tend to wait for the official release of and update so as not to cause any unneccesary issues for our userbase.

"Gold" Editions

Successful games sometimes get bundled with their expansion packs or other extra content.  These are sometimes called Gold Editions.  GameShadow supports many Gold Edition games but sometimes if they are not supported then it might be displayed as an unsupported version.  Subscribers can ask for Gold Editions to be added as part of the service.

Regional Releases

GameShadow supports International English and US English versions of most popular games where available. The service also allows subscribers to request other games to be supported that are not in the list, for instance a German release of a game.

White Label Re-releases

Some games are released as budget titles some time after their initial release. These are known as white label versions. Although GameShadow does pick up most games it may sometimes display a white label version as an unsupported version. Subscribers can ask for white label games to be added as part of the service.
